Refresh Your Website for the New Year
Here we go again, another new year!
The new year is the perfect time to press reset on our websites and give them a nice refresh.
We’ve compiled a list of refresh tips to help you bring your website into 2022.

1. Update the copyright in your footer
If you have your website’s copyright in your footer, you’ll want to update it to the current year. Your website is your intellectual property, but having the copyright icon communicates to site visitors that you hold the rights to your content & indicates to clients that you are currently in practice.
Here’s an example of how you can write your copyright:

2. Review your menu navigation
Look over your menu navigation and ask yourself, "Are these still the most important pages of my website?" If the answer is no, remove that page from your menu.
Another tip is to look at your website’s analytics to view your most visited webpages. If any of your most visited pages aren’t already in your main navigation, it might be worth it to move them there.
3. Audit your content
As you review the content on your website, ask yourself these questions:
“Is this still relevant?”
“Does my content reflect my practice’s mission, expertise, and target audience?”
“Are there any errors or mistakes?”
“Is there new research that I should reference or link to?”
4. Check your links
There's nothing worse than a broken link! Going page by page, click through all of the buttons and links ensuring they're going where you want them to go.
5. Test your site on different devices
To make sure your website design still looks great on mobile, use a mobile-friendly tool, Experte has a mobile-friendly tool for you to test your site out to ensure it's mobile-friendly. Experte will scan every page on your site and tell you whether each page is mobile-friendly or not, and you’ll get to see a screenshot of how each page of your site looks on mobile. You can find that tool here.
6. Spruce up your CTAs
The new year is a great time to take stock of your CTAs (call-to-action buttons) and redo any of the copy that feels too stale or boring.
Your CTAs should include a verb and can be written in first person if that style suits your ideal clients. Some examples are: “Schedule a free consultation”, “Learn more”, or “I’m ready to invest in myself!”
While you’re at it, make sure you have at least one CTA on every page of your website. CTAs support your potential clients journey on your website so that they’re always moving towards that end goal, whether it’s scheduling a free consultation or booking an appointment.
7. Update any dates on your site
Update any dates that might have changed because of the new year. For example, if you have copy that says how many years you’ve been in practice, you’ll want to update that number by a year.
8. Update any new certifications
If you’ve completed any new certifications or completed further education, add them to your website!
9. Check your images
Review the quality and relevance of your images, videos, and graphics. Are there any images that are low quality or outdated? To refresh your images, check out our favorite free stock photo websites - unsplash.com & pexels.com.
10. Review your site’s legal documents
